$50 million lawsuit filed by family of paralyzed victim
hit by Detroit City van

Fieger sued for $50 million for an accident caused by Ronald Howard Long a Detroit city work.

The Jan. 6 accident paralyzed and caused severe brain damage to 18-year-old Gerald Cawthon.

Last week, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick fired six Water and Sewerage employees, including Long.  He reacted angrily to the incidents and another case of on-the-job drinking by city employees, secretly videotaped at a bar by WJBK-Fox 2.

Prosecutors have not filed charges against Long or Jones.

Long struck Cawthon at the intersection of Conant and Alpha Street, with his headlights off at the time, according to the suit filed by his mother. Cawthon was also crossing the street.
