"This just came to us, like a stork dropped him in our lap," Fieger said.
Oakland Probate Judge Linda Hallmark made the adoption final during a private ceremony attended by friends and family of the couple, including Keenie's mother, Fran Podwoiski, and Macomb County Prosecutor Carl Marlinga.
The Fiegers have had Julian since he was 2 weeks old. They could barely contain their joy.
"It's wonderful, better than I ever could have imagined," Fieger gushed.
Keenie said she was a bit taken by the amount of work that comes with a baby.
"He's high maintenance," she said.
"In other words, he's my son," Fieger quipped.
A friend standing close by noted that Keenie now had two babies in her life.
The Fiegers brought along a video camera to memorialize the event as most new parents do.
Fieger, who had just returned from Florida where he had a case, said he had already been "slimed" by Julian. The adoption ceremony had to be delayed a few moments for a quick diaper change.
Fieger said Julian's size - he weighed in at 25 pounds on Thursday - made him a lock for a football player. But he was more concerned that their son grow into a good person who takes advantage of every opportunity in life.
"And he will have every opportunity in life," the well-heeled Fieger said with a smile.
