In this collaboration with the morpheus
quintet (comprised of current and former members of the brian setzer
orchestra,
guru's jazzmatazz, bonedaddies, bop sh'bam and jump with joey),
jack kevorkian has stepped outside the well-documented boundaries of his
global persona to reveal a warm, musical and vunerable aspect of his often
misperceived personality.
on "a very still life", jack improvises jazz flute on 8 out of 9 of his
own compositions rearranged in the subjazz context with j.p. monsche -
bandleader of the morpheus quintet.
the music itself is chiaroscuro and completely engaging...employing
improvisation, melodic swing and rich harmonics, everyone playing has a
blast - and it's obvious from note one! jack also offers a glimpse into
his long-time passion for classical flute and composition through several
solo interludes, and some other surprises we won't mention here.
a key point for retail and consumer is that every cd will be stickered to
the effect that 4.00 from every disc sold will go toward the building of
kevorkian's first patholysis clinic, a safe-haven for doctor-assisted
suicide .
the consumer's right to choose whether or not to support this cause will
be fully respected with this gesture.
the initial 5000 unit pressing will be of a numbered limited edition with
cover art featuring the painting of kevorkian, with liner notes by jack as
well.
all subsequent non-limited edition pressings will also be stickered, and
will feature alternate kevorkian art, re-mixes and an additional track.
and all musicians will be credited per track, by section... there will be
no mistaking who played what on this swingin' little dose of subjazz.
