Return to News pageFieger draws irony between Bush/Kevorkian
Leave it to blustery trial attorney Geoffrey Fieger to compare assisted suicide expert Jack Kevorkian and George W. Bush in a political ad.In a 60 sec. radio spot to air this weekend in the Detroit area, Fieger mocks Bush's "compassionate conservative" label with references to death penalty executions in Texas under his watch as Gov.
In the ad, Fieger says his former client Kevorkian is rotting in jail because he "helped more than 100 terminally ill people end their pain and suffering from terminal illness."
Bush, Fieger sneers, also helped more than 100 people die. He adds, "the difference is, not one of those people wanted to die. But now he's running for President as the right-to-life candidate, as long as its the right to life."
"George W Bush the compassionate conservative. He only executes people who want to live" bizarre? So is the name of the Ad's sponsor, "committee against Abraham, Dubya, and John-dumb, dumber and dumbest." It's a reference to U.S. Sen. Spencer Abraham, Bush and Gov. John Engler.
Fieger wouldn't name other members of the committee, but said he aims to air the ad 142 times Saturday the Monday on Detroit area radio stations. "We're making a commentary on the irony of a compassionate conservative who's in favor of killing people. It's about the elevation of symbolism over substance."
