Family Plans To File Lawsuit

Inkster, Michigan

A 9-year-old boy who was on life support after being severely electrocuted has died. Police said Devon Ewing was playing on the bleachers at Inkster High School Friday night when he fell against a fence that had become electrified. Inkster Fire Department crews rushed to the scene where Devon was reported down. The boy was taken to University of Michigan Hospital where he was put on life support, according to Local 4 reports.

Investigators said faulty wiring near the press box is to blame. Investigators say the wires were old and worn out and came in contact with the fence. The Inkster Public School district reportedly admitted responsibility for the electrical problem and planned to take steps to fix it. They planned on having an electrician come in to inspect the wiring in and around the school before classes start on Aug. 26.

"We're just trying to make sure we get everything secured, so nothing like this happens again," said Howard Morris of Inkster Public Schools.

The family plans to file a lawsuit and have hired Southfield attorney Geoffrey Fieger, Local 4 learned.
